Adjoining Banff National Park to the north is Jasper National
Park, which is one of Canada’s largest National Park with
over eleven thousand square kilometers of incredible scenery and
wildlife.
Jasper National Park is abundant in tours and activities. The opportunity
to experience rafting, from floats to soaks can be done on the National
Historic River, the Athabasca River. Experience the past by joining
the historic voyageur canoe soft adventure. The Park offers numerous
activities including horseback riding, a soak in the Canadian Rockies
warmest springs - the Miette Hot Springs, boat cruises at Maligne
Lake, Whistler Mountain Skytram gondola ride, Athabasca Glacier
Icewalks, skiing and snowboarding at Marmot Basin, Maligne Canyon
Icewalk, flights over the Rockies by helicopter or plane, train
trips and guided interpretive tours to all of Jasper’s Gems
including Mount Edith Cavell, animal searches or which are better
described as a safaris, birding during the spring and early summer
can be very interesting. Getting out and tramping, hiking, walking,
running, skiing, snowshoeing the intensive system of trails exploring
the surrounding will take you a lifetime. Close to the National
Park take part in dogsledding, snowmobiling and ATV tours.
Touring north from Lake Louise following Highway 93, the Columbia
Icefield greets visitors as they enter Jasper National Park. The
Athabasca Glacier with the world renowned Brewster Snocoach tour
and the Icefield Chalet which houses the Parks Canada display on
the glacier, makes for an incredibly informative stop over before
venturing further into Jasper National Park. The natural beauty
of glaciers, geological formations of mountain peaks and valleys,
the Sunwapta and Athabasca River and waterfalls, the abundance and
variety of flora and fawna will keep you in awe, all the way to
Jasper.
Easily accessed from Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta, or Vancouver
or Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Depending on your arrival point,
the townsite of Jasper is situated at the start or the finish of
the Icefield Parkway, considered “the most scenic highway
in the world”.
